Hello and welcome to our Willow class page!
I'm so excited to have you join us on our learning adventure this year. Here, you’ll find everything you need to stay updated on our classroom activities, important dates, and all the exciting things we’re working on.
From creative projects to inspiring lessons, Willow class is a place where we grow, learn, and have fun together. I look forward to sharing our progress and achievements with you throughout the year.

Willow Class
Willow Class is taught by Miss Douglas. We are a Year Five Class.
In Willow, reading is really important. Please bring a bag to school everyday to keep your books safe and in good condition. The expectation for reading in Willow is to read for at least 15/20 minutes each day. You can keep a log of this on your online reading record - children will be rewarded in school for their reading at home.
Knowledge of times tables is also very important as they are used in many different areas of maths. The expectation is to work on learning and recalling times tables, and the associated division facts, at least three times a week through TTRockstars. Children will be rewarded with dojos for their times tables practice at home. We will be running TTRockstars tournaments regularly to give our superstars a chance to showcase their knowledge and skills on our championship table!
On this page, I will keep you up-to-date with any information regarding school work and things happening in Willow. Please visit regularly.
PE
Please come to school in your PE kit every Tuesday lesson will be outside and Wednesday's lesson will be inside. Please dress appropriately in plain (no logos, please) black shorts, jogging bottoms, or leggings, with a white T-shirt and a school jumper, fleece or cardigan. Earrings need to be covered appropriately and safely or removed on these days.
Homework:
In addition to reading and times tables, weekly spellings will be put in the children's home spelling book for them to practise at least three times, ready for their weekly Friday spelling test - please return this book each Friday so children can be rewarded with dojos for their work. I will also post new spellings on Dojo so I can keep parents in the loop on a regular basis.
I am thrilled to be your teacher this year! I can’t wait to dive into exciting lessons, creative projects, and lots of fun learning together. We know this year will be full of growth, new challenges, and memorable moments.

Subject Ambassadors!
We are delighted to introduce Willow's Subject Ambassadors! These children have been carefully chosen because they show a passion for their subject, a dedication to being the subject's voice and an inspiring to enthusiasm with others.
Our Subject Ambassadors play an important role in our classroom and across the school. They:
- Promote their subject by encouraging interest and excitement among their peers.
- Supporting classroom learning in their subject, by demonstrating commitment and sharing ideas.
- Get involved in subject-themed activities and competitions, showcasing what makes their subject special.
We are so proud of our ambassadors and the leadership values they demonstrate.
Eco-Champion!
We are proud to introduce our Eco Champion!
Our Eco Champion’s responsibilities include:
- Keeping our school tidy and encouraging others to do the same.
- Reducing energy use by making sure lights are turned off when they’re not needed.
- Sorting rubbish correctly, ensuring waste goes into the right bins for recycling.
By taking these steps, our Eco Champion helps us all do our bit to reduce our carbon footprint and minimise our impact on the planet and climate change. Together, we can make a difference!
Happiness Hero!
We are thrilled to introduce our Happiness Hero! This special role is all about promoting joy and positivity within our class and school community. Our Happiness Hero embodies kindness and support, making a real difference to those around them.
This role links closely to our My Happy Mind programme, which we explore in weekly assemblies. Over the year, children learn through five modules that introduce new habits and strategies to build resilience, self-esteem, and confidence. Our Happiness Hero helps bring these ideas to life by:
- Encouraging positivity and kindness in everyday interactions.
- Supporting classmates to feel valued and included.
- Reminding us of the habits we learn in My Happy Mind, helping everyone to use them in real life.
Through this role, we aim to create a happy, supportive environment where every child can thrive.
Attendance Ambassador!
She is entrusted with supporting Miss Douglas and other children with their attendance, taking attendance percentages and helping Mrs Melhuish with jobs and responsibilities!
