Hazel - Miss Mason - Year 4

This year, Hazel Class is taught by Miss Mason. We are a pure Year 4 class. Our classroom nurtures creativityfun and a love of learning! We have lots of fantastic things planned for our year together!

Please look at the wonderful work we have been getting up to on our 'Look what we are doing!' tab and our Class Dojo!

Hazel's Subject Ambassadors

We are delighted to introduce Hazel’s Subject Ambassadors! These children have been chosen because they show a real passion for their subject and a willingness to share that enthusiasm with others.

Our Subject Ambassadors play an important role in our classroom and across the school. They:

  • Promote their subject by encouraging interest and excitement among their peers.
  • Supporting classroom learning in their subject, by demonstrating commitment and sharing ideas.
  • Get involved in subject-themed activities and competitions, showcasing what makes their subject special.

We are so proud of our ambassadors and the leadership they show. They help make learning enjoyable and inspire others to get involved.

Hazel's Eco- Champion

We are proud to introduce our Eco Champion! This important role helps us work towards creating a more sustainable school.

Our Eco Champion’s responsibilities include:

  • Keeping our school tidy and encouraging others to do the same.
  • Reducing energy use by making sure lights are turned off when they’re not needed.
  • Sorting rubbish correctly, ensuring waste goes into the right bins for recycling.

By taking these steps, our Eco Champion helps us all do our bit to reduce our carbon footprint and minimise our impact on the planet and climate change. Together, we can make a difference!

Hazel's Happiness Hero

We are thrilled to introduce our Happiness Hero! This special role is all about promoting joy and positivity within our class and school community. Our Happiness Hero embodies kindness and support, making a real difference to those around them.

This role links closely to our My Happy Mind programme, which we explore in weekly assemblies. Over the year, children learn through five modules that introduce new habits and strategies to build resilience, self-esteem, and confidence. Our Happiness Hero helps bring these ideas to life by:

  • Encouraging positivity and kindness in everyday interactions.
  • Supporting classmates to feel valued and included.
  • Reminding us of the habits we learn in My Happy Mind, helping everyone to use them in real life.

Through this role, we aim to create a happy, supportive environment where every child can thrive.

PE

This term, Summer, Hazel Class will have 2 PE sessions a week. Both PE lessons will be outdoor on a Monday and a Wednesday.

Please send your child to school in their P.E kits on these days.

Our P.E kit is a plain white t-shirt, plain black shorts or jogging trousers with black trainers or plimsolls. Our school sweatshirt can also be worn. Please wear joggers in the cooler weather.

Please make sure your child is dressed appropriately for the lesson / weather with earrings removed.

Reading

In Year 3, reading is really important. Reading books can be changed as and when needed and reading entries on 'Learning with Parents' are checked every Friday. Please bring your reading book to school every day to keep them safe and in good condition.

Please log the days your child has read at home on the 'Learning with Parents' website which you will have recieved an email link for. Reading will be logged on the website when read with at school also. There are reading awards to celebrate reading participation.

Spelling

Spellings will be sent home at the start of a new spelling unit and the spelling quiz will be given to the children at the end of the unit. Please help your child to practise their spelling rule and either the orange or red words. If you are unsure which coloured words your child is working on, please send Miss Mason a dojo.

TTRS

Children will be practising their times tables in school, but please encourage your child to practise their spellings on TTRockstars at least three times a week.

Children can also access Maths on Numbots. This programme uses the same login as TTRockstars.

If you have any problems logging onto anything, please speak to Miss Mason.

Year 4 Multiplication Check

Please find attached information regarding the statutory multiplication check that takes place in the summer term.  The children will answer several quick fire multiplication questions on an I-pad and gain a score from this.
