Chestnut Class Are Off to a Flying Start!
Chestnut Class have made a fantastic start to the new school year! It has been wonderful to see the children settling into their new routines, growing in confidence and showing such a positive attitude towards their learning.
In Maths, we have been developing our understanding of place value. The children have been using practical resources, including Base 10 equipment and counters, to build and represent numbers, compare their values and deepen their understanding including rounding.
Our English learning has been inspired by The Land of Roar, which the children have really enjoyed exploring. We have been developing our descriptive writing by using -ing sentence openers and expanded noun phrases to add detail and interest. We have now started working towards our diary entries, thinking carefully about Arthur’s experiences and how he might be feeling at different points in his adventure. We will use this work to help us write emotion comma sentences.
The children have also made a brilliant start with our new spelling scheme. They are becoming increasingly confident at recognising different spelling patterns and applying these within their own work. During Reading, we have explored a mixture of fiction and non-fiction texts, with the children working hard to develop their comprehension skills and extend their vocabulary.
One of our favourite experiences so far has been our Ancient Egyptian workshop. Chestnut Class thoroughly enjoyed stepping back in time and taking part in a range of practical, hands-on activities that helped to bring our History learning to life.
Music has been another exciting part of our week. The children have been learning about keeping a steady beat and have practised how to correctly use their mouthpieces before transferring these skills to the trombone. It has been lovely to see their enthusiasm as they begin to develop their confidence playing an instrument.
Our Year 4 children continue to make excellent progress during their swimming lessons, demonstrating determination and growing confidence in the water. Meanwhile, our Year 3 children have been working equally hard in PE, showing enthusiasm, teamwork and a positive attitude towards developing their physical skills.
We are incredibly proud of how well Chestnut Class have begun the year and cannot wait to see all that they achieve over the coming weeks!
