Sycamore Class
Welcome to Sycamore Class!
Taught by Miss Barker, Sycamore Class is our vibrant and enthusiastic Year 2 class. Our classroom is a warm and welcoming space where creativity, fun, and a love of learning are at the heart of everything we do. We’ve got an exciting year ahead, full of fantastic opportunities and new adventures in learning!
Reading in Year 2
Reading is a big focus in Year 2. Each week, your child will bring home a reading book to help them make great progress. Books will be sent home on Mondays and should be returned by Fridays.
We also place a strong emphasis on phonics, which supports children in both reading and writing. It’s a vital part of their early learning journey. For more information, don’t forget to visit our Phonics page!
See What We're Up To!
Be sure to check out all the amazing things happening in Sycamore Class on our 'Look What We’re Doing!' tab and over on Class Dojo – we love sharing our learning with you!
P. E.
This term, Sycamore Class will have two P.E. sessions taught by Miss Barker. We will be doing dance on a Monday and bench sequence on a Tuesday.
Please send your child to school in their P.E. kits on these days.
Our P.E. kit is a plain white t-shirt, plain black shorts or jogging trousers and black trainers or plimsoles. Our school sweatshirt can also be worn. Please wear joggers in the cooler weather.
Spellings and Homework
Each week, we introduce a brand-new spelling pattern for the children to explore! There are plenty of chances to practise these spellings daily in school, and we’ll also send home a list so your child can practise reading and writing their spellings at home.
Every Friday, we have a spelling quiz, and the children are always encouraged to do their very best! We focus on celebrating how many words are spelled correctly, rather than the ones that aren’t – it’s all about progress and building confidence!
We love seeing photographs of the children’s amazing work! If your child completes any spelling practice at home, feel free to share it on Class Dojo. We’ll give lots of positive feedback and celebrate their hard work!
Thank you so much for all the support you give to your child’s learning!
Subject Ambassadors
Our Subject Ambassadors are passionate and inspiring leaders in their chosen fields. They champion their subjects, raise awareness, and foster a love for learning across the school community.
Sycamore's Happiness Hero!
Sycamore’s Happiness Hero has a very special job! Each week, they meet with the Happiness Heroes from the other classes to share ideas and work together on ways to spread joy around the school. Our Happiness Hero helps brighten people’s day by handing out inspiring message notes, cheering others on, and encouraging everyone to take part in small acts of kindness. Whether it’s giving a thoughtful compliment, helping a friend, or simply sharing a smile, Sycamore’s Happiness Hero reminds us that even the tiniest actions can make a big difference. Their mission is simple: to help our classroom — and our whole school — become an even happier place to be!
Sycamore's Eco Warrior!
Rosie is Sycamore’s incredible Eco Warrior! She makes sure we follow all our eco-friendly routines each day so we can proudly say we are doing our bit for the planet! Rosie checks out tick list carefully, making sure the lights are switched off when we leave the room, our rubbish is srted into the correct recycling bins, and our windows are closed to save energy. Thanks to Rosie's enthusiasm and responsibility, Sycamore is becoming greener everyday!
