Welcome to Elder Class

This year, Elder Class is taught by Miss Jackson. We are a Year 1 class. Our classroom nurtures creativity, fun and a love of learning! We have lots of fantastic things planned for our year together! We’re so excited to have you with us this year as we go on lots of learning adventures together. On this page, you’ll be able to see all the fun things we’ve been up to, find important dates, and keep up with our exciting projects- We love celebrating our achievements throughout the year!

In Year 1, reading is really important. We send home reading books every week for your child to make good progress in their reading. Books will be given out on a Monday and returned to school on a Friday. Phonics is also a really important part of early reading and writing it can help your child in all aspects of their learning. Please see the separate phonics page for more information.

We can’t wait to share our journey with you – let’s make this year the best one yet!

Please look at the wonderful work we have been getting up to on our 'Look what we are doing!' tab and our Class Dojo!

PE

This term, Elder Class will have two PE sessions. These will be on Monday (Outdoor) and Wednesday (Indoor).

Please send your child to school in their PE kits on these days.

Our PE kit is a plain white t-shirt, plain black shorts or jogging trousers and black trainers or plimsoles. Our school sweatshirt can also be worn.

Spellings and Homework

Each week a new spelling pattern is introduced.  There are opportunities for the spellings of the week to be practised daily in school as well as being sent home on a Friday for weekly homework.

There will be a spelling quiz in class every Friday. The children are encouraged to try their best, focusing on how many words are spelt correctly, not incorrectly.

Our maths homework will be accessable on TTRockstars. The children can challenge themselves further on our 2s and 10 times tables.

Homework - reading, spellings and maths will be sent home each week. Children will have the chance to send in their homework so that we can see their fantastic work!

Thank you for supporting your child's learning.
