Class Dojo!
In EYFS, we love Class Dojo! It is a fantastic way to show our grown-ups everything we have enjoyed at school! We regularly upload photos and message so you can see updates on how your child is progressing and all the amazing things we are learning about. Class Dojo is also an effective parent communication tool and enables you to send messages to your Class Teacher. If you don’t already have access to Class Dojo, please speak to your child’s teacher and we will help you set it up!
Reading
We LOVE Reading in Early Years. We read as much as we can in school and encourage you to share as many stories as possible with your child at home.
Each week your child will be given a story book for you to share together. In Reception, when your child is ready, they will bring home a book to begin to read to you. Spend at least ten minutes each day (early morning is often more effective than evening) sharing the book – making up stories to match the images; practising reading the book or playing with the words introduced. Reading is an essential skill and all consolidation and modelling helps to cement a love of books.
Phonics
Your child will take part in a daily phonics group using the Read, Write, Inc. phonics scheme. In this group, they will develop their knowledge of phoneme grapheme correspondence and segmenting and blending to enable them to read and spell words.
In Nursery, your child will develop early listening skills such as environmental sounds and other aspects which aim to develop your child's awareness of sounds and rhymes. In Reception, we revisit and build on this previous knowledge and introduce individual phonemes such as 'm', 'a' and 's'.
Once children are confident in segmenting (breaking words into sounds) and blending (putting sounds back together to hear what the words say), they will begin reading words in books and writing sentences.
Maths
In EY2, teaching and learning is successful through the implementation of Mastering Number. Mastering Number is in line with the new, effective research and EYFS framework. It ensures consistency and progression throughout the year, focusing on building knowledge of Number. Maths is a practical and exciting learning experience, giving the children the opportunity to discover concepts and ideas themselves.
