We have completd our Paul Cezanne still life peices of art using different media such as pencils, oil pastels and watercoloured paints. We thoguht carefully about the different textures of the pictures and where shadow could be used for extra effect. The children placed the fruit and draw from different angles depending on where they were sat. Afrterwards they created a mini art gallery and we explroe perspective and why all the artwork was slighlty different despite the children all using the same arrnagement of fruit. 

This week to support our writing stimulus we went to explore our local area of Weelsby Woods. We thought carefully about the five senses and how at a park we explore them all in different ways. We discussed why people might visit a park and who they could visit with, exploring the different walking routes and where it they take you along the way. This provoded the children with real life experiences that then inspired them when designing their own mythical forests. 

This week the children enjoyed a science workshop focussing on buildidng circuits as part of their topic within science.

Well done also to Rowan Class who mananeged to get 100% attendance! Keep working hard - whatr a fantastic achievement! 

This week the children explored the Islamsic creation story and what Muslims believe in terms of the world creation. We read the story as a whole class and then each group were given a page to role play and act out to the whole class for us to understand the story further. It was lovely to see how creative the children were in their groups to re create/ act out their pages. We had the use of made props, freeze frames and movement with voice characteristaions, which really brought the story alive and demonstrated such high levels of understanding from everyone in the class - well done!  

This week it was World Book Day! The children enjoyed sharing their favourite books with one another in the classroom and reading some extracts to the whole class, stimulating lots of curiosity about each others books and showcasing their love for reading. 

This week we have had our PE session with Twist and Flip gymnastics, where the children have explored bear walks, bunny hops, rolls and the beginnings of a cartwheel. We discussed why each of these movements were important in gymnastsics and these support us when moving onto other gymnastic moves and positions. 

This half term the children have been exploring earthquakes and volcanoes in geography, looking at how each are formed, what damage they can cause and the impacts this has on the lives of people and the environment in which they live in. The children worked in groups and individually to create a poster/piece of work giving people advice on how they should prepare for one of these disasters and shared the advice with the rest of the class. 

This week we explored the use of a conscious alley when looking at our writing. The children were given time to generate their own opinions and development of their orally composition before walking down the alley to share their viewpooint and opinions. 

This week we completed a practical lesson, exploring how and when Muslims pray and the reasons behind this. The children explored the direction in which Muslims face to pray using a compass to help them point in the direction of Mecca. 

This week we have been busy using our place value counters to support us to multiply and divide by 10 and 100. We explored both grouping to help us be successful! 

This week the children have been working hard in writing building upon their power of three sentence knowledge. They have completed different tasks to develop their own independence supported by oral competency of the generation of their own sentences. Great adjectives and verbs used to enhance the sentences created. 

The children have been working as teams to research different Christian practices such as prayers, symbols, scripture, hymns and sermons, creating posters to present to the whole class. They used written peices of information and their own I-pad research to generate their information. Amazing posters and presenting skills everyone!

This week we we were extremely lucky to have a Hindu Workshop in school where the children looked at different traditions, dances and festivals that Hindu's complete linking to their religion. The children were able to listen to stories and learn about different practices that take place and reasons behind this. The children enjoyed playing instruments and dressing up with traditional Hindu attire. 

This week the children have been comparing characters within the story 'The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe', where they have had to use their knowledge of the story so far to depict which statement is referring to which characters, finding that some things link to both of them. Afterwards, they compared a venn diagram in their books focussing on different characters and the similarities and difference between them too!

This week we have continued our Religion and World Views topic and have been looking at Pentecost. This is a very special time in the Bible when the disciples and other Christians received the Holy Spirit. The children used drama to retell the story of Pentecost which is believed to be the birthday of the Christian Church. During Pentecost, Jesus’ disciples realised they had the gift to speak different languages. The Holy Spirit enabled them to be able to do this. We acted out the story in front of the class.

This week we have been completing some of our Rosalind Monk inspired art, by printing using styrofoam. We have carefully scribed intricate texture techniques onto our insects before then moving onto printing these using paints. 

We also had a visit from Portals to the Past to deliver us a workshop on the Ancient Egyptians. We looked at artefacts, played board games and experienced some traditions such as mummification that happened many, many years ago!

This week we have been focussing on spelling that have a prefix at the beginning of each word, inlucluding mis, dis, un and in. The children have been busy completing dictation activites where they challenged their partner to create a sentence including one of our spelling words which their parnter then wrote and swapped over. There were some amazing sentences created and well done for using our spelling words in the correct context within the sentences!

This week we have been working hard in our P.E. mastering the skills of skipping and hurdles, using both two and one feet jumps. We have then begun to develop our tennis skills, practising both back and fore hand. This used lots of hand eye co-ordination when attempting to keep the ball in the air. Well done everyone!

This week we have been exploring human and physcial features of geography. We have understood what these terms mean and given examples of these in our local area of Cleethorpes, as well as on our journies to school. We went on a school walk to determine which features around us, in our environment, were human and physical!

This week in Rowan class we have working extremely hard on our reterival sequencing skills, ordering key words, pictures and events in the correct order they appear in the text. We have also unpicked our new poem 'The Fieldmouse' exploring the four different stanzas, what these mean and how these relate to the seasons of the year - well done everyone!

What an amazing first week we had in Rowan Class! You have all amazed me with your wonderful learning attitudes. We have focussed on our handwriting and sentence writing using capital letters, full stops, finger spaces and other elements of punctuation and grammer; we have explored place value in our maths sessions using base ten and place value counters. being able to count in our 1000's; in topic we have explored Europe and looked at some basic traditions of Christianity as well as looking at animals and classifying them in science.
