Summer 2- Week 8
What an amazing year it has been — watching each other grow, support one another, and become the best versions of ourselves. It has truly been an honour to teach such a wonderful group of children.
This is a year we will never forget! I am beyond proud and grateful to have had the opportunity to be part of their journey.
I wish each and every one of them the very best for next year — I have no doubt they will continue to flourish and shine!
Summer 2- Week 7
In Maths, we’ve been exploring time — learning all about hours, minutes, and seconds. Through some brilliant activities, we discovered how time can feel long or short depending on what we’re doing. The children really enjoyed deepening their understanding in a fun, practical way!
We also spent time learning strategies to help us cope with change. The children reflected on how we can support ourselves when things feel different or uncertain. We practised using our My Happy Mind breathing techniques, getting fresh air, and even doing some exercise to help manage those feelings. It was a powerful and meaningful lesson that they really connected with.
To top it all off, the children had a blast on their coding site ‘Dance Party’ — designing and creating their own coding routines. Their creativity and enthusiasm absolutely shone through, and they were so proud of what they accomplished.
We also had an amazing DT day! which consisted of our lovely adults coming in to help us sew! I have been blown away with all of your hard work!

Summer 2- Week 6
What another brilliant week it’s been in Elder Class!
This week, we’ve been exploring our new book, The Colour Monster — a fantastic story about recognising and understanding our emotions, and knowing what to do when we’re feeling a certain way. The children have absolutely loved it and shared lots of thoughtful ideas about how they feel and how to manage different emotions.
In Maths, we’ve finished our topic on place value to 100 and have now started looking at Money. The children have been brilliant at identifying different coins and notes, and have really enjoyed using practical activities to help them learn.
We also had a special treat this week as we transformed our quad into ‘Bursar Beach’! The children had the chance to feel the sand between their toes, splash in the water, build sandcastles, and listen to the sounds of the ocean. It was a lovely experience, and the children had a fantastic time!

Transition week
This has been a brilliant week for children to get to know their new teacher and understand what it will be like for when they go up next year!
Summer 2- week 4
What a fantastic week it’s been in Elder class!
In PSHE, the children have been learning all about the importance of staying clean and healthy. We’ve explored why washing our hands is so important and even discovered the difference between good germs and bad germs — and we definitely don’t want the bad ones!
It’s also been Sports Day week! The children took part in a range of exciting activities including the egg and spoon race, vortex throwing, sack race, and many more. It was wonderful to see so many smiling faces, lots of cheering for their friends, and a brilliant display of teamwork and encouragement. Every child made sure their friends joined in and felt supported, which was lovely to watch.
Well done, Elder class! We’ve definitely got some future sports stars in our class — I can’t wait to see you all at the Olympics one day! Keep it up!
Summer 2- week 3
Following on from last week’s geography lessons, the children have had the opportunity to explore ice to represent the polar ice caps and investigate the effects of climate change on our planet. They’ve thoroughly enjoyed this experiment — especially in the warm weather!
In maths, our Year 1 children have been working hard on counting to 100, and I’ve been so impressed with their number knowledge! Meanwhile, Year 2 have been learning about pictograms and the importance of collecting and interpreting data — fantastic work from everyone.
In PSHE, we’ve been discussing the difference between wants and needs, and exploring what we need to stay happy and healthy. The children have really enjoyed this topic throughout the term, sharing thoughtful ideas and reflections.
We’ve also started practicing for our upcoming Sports Day, which has brought lots of excitement to the classroom!

Summer 2- Week 2
We have started our new geography topic! This term we are looking at our key question that is ‘How is global warming impacting our world?’. This is amazing to see the children’s previous knowledge grow from autumn term to now. I wonder if we xcan remember any amazing facts?
In science we have been looking at parents and off-springs and understanding that we also have a life cycle too! The children have loved looking at the human life cycle yet also animal life cycles and understanding that animals grow. We looked at bunnies turning into rabbits and babies turning into adults.
In writing we have been looking at common exception words, as well as alternative ay sounds such as eight, straight, and great! They have loved looking at this!
Elder has had an amazing time this week with their knowledge growing daily so they are ready for their new classes!
Summer 2- Week 1
This final term has given us the wonderful opportunity to continue exploring art inspired by David Hockney and Rebecca Vincent — but this time completing a final piece! The children have been adding roads that gradually disappear into the sunset and using shapes to create stunning landscapes. It’s been fantastic to see their creativity shine through in these beautiful pieces.
In PSHE, we’ve been working through our My Happy Mind scheme to better understand the difference between our wants and needs. The children have shown brilliant maturity discussing these ideas with their learning partners, recognising that while it’s okay to want things, there are other things we need to stay healthy, happy, and safe. The thoughtful conversations they’ve had have been wonderful to witness!
Elder Class has also made incredible progress with their phonics this term. Even after having a week off, the children have returned eager and enthusiastic, quickly picking up where they left off. They’ve especially enjoyed discovering new words and using them to stretch their knowledge even further.

Summer 1- Week 5
This week, while studying the work of David Hockney and Rebecca Vincent, we’ve been exploring shading techniques and learning how the pressure we apply to a pencil can change the effect of our drawings. We then used watercolours to bring our artwork to life, experimenting with making colours lighter or darker depending on our creative choices.
Throughout this term, the children have been working incredibly hard in Phonics as we prepare for our Phonics Screening Test during the week commencing 9th June. I’ve been so impressed by their strength, focus, and determination — it’s been fantastic to see how eager they are to build on their skills and challenge themselves!

Summer 1- Week 4
In Maths, Year 1 have been exploring the concept of halves, both in shapes and when splitting groups of objects. We've used a variety of manipulatives to help them see this in action. Just like Year 2 last week, they’ve thoroughly enjoyed activities involving pizza and chocolate bars to make learning fun and engaging!
This term in Art, we’ve started an exciting project inspired by Rebecca Vincent and David Hockney. The children have been experimenting with adding white to colours to make them lighter, and mixing in darker shades to create deeper tones. It’s been wonderful to see their creativity shine through!
In PSHE, we’ve been learning about our community and the important role the children play within it, both inside and outside of school. They’ve shown great understanding in recognising how they can support others and help take care of the community around them.

Summer 1- Week 3
In Computing, the children have been taking a closer look at coding and exploring why it’s such an important part of the modern world. They’ve been learning about how data is inputted and outputted through coding, and had a fantastic time using a brilliant website called Dance Party. Each child chose their favourite songs and programmed their character to dance along — they’ve absolutely loved it!
In Maths, Year 2 have been learning about fractions and discovering where we might find them in everyday life. We’ve talked about examples like pizzas, cakes and other real-life situations to help bring the concept to life.
In History, we’ve been learning about the famous moon landing and thinking of creative ways to celebrate Neil Armstrong’s achievement each year. The children particularly enjoyed designing their own limited edition stamps to mark this historic event — and their ideas were fantastic!

Summer 1- Week 2
What a glorious week it’s been! The sunshine has been encouraging us to take our learning outdoors and make the most of the beautiful weather.
In Maths, Year 1 have been busy sorting objects into equal groups, while Year 2 have been learning all about quarters and what they mean — and they've especially loved doing this out in the sunshine!
In History, we’ve continued exploring the life of Neil Armstrong, focusing on the sequence of events during the moon landing. This has tied in wonderfully with our English work, where we’ve been looking at chronological order in The Smartest Giant in Town.
We have also been looking at coding in Computing. The children have loved creating a character that can dance and move to their favourite songs!

Summer 1- Week 1
What a fantastic first week back it’s been! Elder Class have dived into learning about Neil Armstrong and the moon landing, exploring whether it really happened! They’ve loved investigating the famous event, examining photos and spotting some very curious details.
In English, the children have been enjoying their new story The Smartest Giant in Town. They've been practising using imperative (bossy) verbs to give the giant advice on how to be smart.
In science, the class has been learning about the differences between seeds and bulbs. They’ve explored their sizes, colours, and discovered which fruits and vegetables contain seeds or bulbs.

Spring 2- week 6
The final week before half term is here, and the children have been working incredibly hard, expanding their knowledge every day. I am so proud of their dedication, determination, and resilience throughout this term!
In DT, the children have been designing and building a moving vehicle for Lewis Hamilton! They have explored hinges, levers, wheels, and axles, using problem-solving skills to bring their creations to life. They have loved experimenting with new construction techniques and developing their understanding of how things move.
In Science, we have been diving into food chains, learning about their importance in the animal kingdom. The children have enjoyed identifying different animals and their diets, as well as discussing what would happen if a link in the chain were missing.

Spring 2- week 5
In Maths, the children have been exploring volume and capacity, learning key vocabulary such as full, empty, nearly full, and nearly empty. They have been applying their knowledge to real-life examples like water bottles and soap bottles—and they’ve done an amazing job!
In PSHE, we have been focusing on the emotion of anger, understanding how to manage it and what to do when we feel this way. We’ve practiced finger breathing, My Happy Mind breathing, and the importance of talking to a trusted adult. The children have really enjoyed learning about feelings and emotions!
In Music, we’ve been having so much fun with our song of the term, Zootime! The children have been learning some cool moves to groove to, and they love this lively song about animals!

Spring 2- Week 4
Elder Class has been working incredibly hard on applying their phonics knowledge in writing lessons to ensure accurate spelling. We are setting high standards in writing by making sure every piece includes capital letters, full stops, and at least one adjective—what fantastic progress! Keep it up, Elder Class!
In Maths, the children have been learning about comparing mass by using scales and understanding how to read them. They now know that if a scale is balanced, the objects must weigh the same—great thinking!
In Science, we have been exploring habitats, learning about the animals that live in different environments and the conditions needed for survival. For example, we discovered that a camel couldn’t live in a polar habitat because its fur is too thin, and there wouldn’t be enough food for it to survive. Can you remember any other animals and the habitats they live in?

Spring 2- Week 3
Elder Class has had an incredible week, especially enjoying a fantastic science and drama workshop—it was a big hit!
In Maths, Year 1 has been deepening their understanding of place value up to 50. They have been using manipulatives like dienes and counters to support their learning, and their progress has been amazing—so proud of them!
In Writing, Year 2 has been working on expanding noun phrases, focusing on describing the aeroplane in our book The Way Back Home.

Spring 2- Week 2
The children have been loving My Happy Mind lately, exploring their brain and understanding emotions. My Happy Mind is a great tool for children to use daily with the understanding of the hippocampus, amygdala and prefrontal cortex, Team HAP! They are loving this throughout year 1 and 2
In History we have been expanding out knowledge on Old clee, looking at the types of buildings that have been around for hundreds of years and comparing them to our buildings!
In Writing all children have been loving our new book ‘The way back home’ and they have been helping Zog, the alien, reach the boy on the moon! How exciting!!

Spring 2- Week 1
The children have had an amazing week in looking at their new history topic of Old Clee. The children were lucky to have a walk around the area to look at historic buildings and view masterpieces that have been around for over 100 years.
In maths year 1 children have been working on their place value to 50 and year 2s have been looking at their 5 times tables. Their maths work is coming on so strong!
In writing the children have been consolidating their handwriting skills focusing closely on letter formations and sentances! Super proud of them

Spring 1- Week 6
The children have been finalising their art project of recreating Van Gogh pieces. They have been using proportion to ensure they are the correct size and using a wide range of colours.
In maths children have been amazing at their addition and subtraction topic! They have been using manipulatives to help support them in finding their answers.
The children have loved learning about Safer internet day! They have looked into how to stay safe online, what we should do if something makes us uncomfortable and to always speak to an adult! This has linked lovely to our computing topic this term!
Elder class has had a lovely term with lots of learning and giggles! Super proud of Elder this term! Keep it up!
Spring 1- Week 5
Elder class has had another wonderful week!
In Art, the children have been exploring primary colours and discovering the wide range of colours they can create. They’ve also been studying Van Gogh’s artwork, paying close attention to the details and colours he used in his pieces.
In English, we’ve been reading Beegu, and the children have been creating questions they think Beegu might ask if he could speak our language. They’ve been focusing on using capital letters and question marks correctly while challenging themselves daily—I’m so impressed with their progress!
In Science, we’ve been learning about different animal habitats and why certain animals can’t survive in specific climates and environments. The children also explored our surroundings to find local wildlife and spotted worms, a fox, and dogs!

Spring 1- Week 4
Elder class has had an incredible week!
In Maths, we’ve focused on practical lessons, applying our learning to everyday life. The children have been exploring ‘Maths in the Wild,’ a fantastic initiative that helps them see how maths is all around us and used daily!
We’ve also started our Art topic, diving into the work of Vincent Van Gogh. His incredible artwork makes you feel as though you’re part of the scene!
This week, the children enjoyed a special treat—an interactive experience with The Jungle Book! They absolutely loved it!
In Science, we’ve begun an exciting experiment to see whether plants grow better in the dark or in the light. We can’t wait to see the results!

Spring 1- Week 3
This week has been another fantastic week in Elder class! In Computing, we’ve been working on designing book covers focused on staying safe and communicating online.
In Geography, we’ve been exploring Oarai, Japan, delving into its population, size, language, and tourism, while comparing it to Cleethorpes.
In Writing, the children have been enhancing their sentences and focusing on the quality of their work. Their dedication and determination are evident in their daily efforts, and it’s truly paying off.

Spring term 1- Week 2
The children have blown all staff members away this week with their amazing retainment of knowledge from the week before in Geography, focusing on the similarities and differences of Cleethorpes and Oarai.
The children have been using adjectives to describe missing animals! They were able to go back to Antarctica because of their amazing descriptions.
Finally, in Computing the children have been taking their first footsteps in the digital world and learning alternate ways on how to communicate with people digitally. Super work!

Spring term 1- Week 1
The children have had a wonderful first week back. The children have loved their writing sessions this week, focusing on a new book ‘Lost and found’. They are working hard on nouns and adjectives.
In maths, we have been focusing on counting in our 2s, 5s and 10s! Their growing passion is evident when learning their times tables.
We have started a new topic in Geography, in which we are focusing on the differences and similarities between Cleethorpes and Oarai, Japan.
I wonder what next week will bring?
Autumn 2- Week 6
A Week Full of Festive Fun and Adventure!
This week has been an unforgettable one for our children, packed with excitement, exploration, and creativity! Here's a look at what they've been up to: A Magical Trip to the Pantomime, exploring for materials and performing in our Christmas concert!
The children were extremely lucky to have a magical experience being able to go to the pantomime to watch an amazing show, in which the performance was a huge hit, with plenty of cheering, singing!
Midweek, the children went on a local walk to explore what materials we can see locally and why we use these materials! We searched high, searched low and found multiple options for the same material.
The highlight of the week came with the children’s spectacular Christmas concert. After weeks of preparation and practice, they took to the stage with confidence and festive cheer, performing beautifully for their families and friends. This was wonderful to see all of the children’s hard work pay off!
We are so proud of the children for their hard work, creativity, and enthusiasm throughout this festive week. With more fun and learning ahead, we can’t wait to see what the next week brings!
Autumn 2- Week 5
This week has been an exciting and unique one in Elder Class! We've been dedicating our time to practicing songs for our upcoming Christmas performance, which will take place on the 13th of December. We can't wait to perform and share the festive spirit with all the parents, family, and friends!
Elder Class has been working incredibly hard on their yoga performances, carefully following instructions to transition smoothly into each pose.
In Computing, we’ve been honing our screenshot and editing skills, with the children creatively editing photos of their choice.
Finally, in DT, we had an amazing day making apple crumble! The class was thrilled with their creations and couldn’t wait to take them home to try. Well done, everyone!
Autumn 2- Week 4
This week in KS1, we had an exciting Science Day where we explored a variety of materials, including paper, cardboard, glass, and more!
In Computing, the children created their own digital galleries using Show Me. It was fantastic to see their creative drawings showcasing everything they enjoy. Computing has been a big hit with the class!
During our Writing lessons, we are reading Percy the park keeper, focusing on the setting and using noun phrases! The children have shown incredible determination to do their best, and their progress has been amazing.

Autumn 2- Week 3
Our first week of snow in school has been amazing!
This week children have created their own audio recordings and creating audio books in computing. They have loved completing this as they can hear their voices back! In Art we have been creating our own masterpiece inspired by Kandinsky, these have been amazing to see their ideas flourish.
Maths this week has been amazing focusing on subtraction by crossing images out! They have smashed this!
Writing has blown me away this week with amazing stamina and determination from the children to ensure that their work is amazing, by asking to redo their sentence again!
Autumn 2- Week 2
What an other amazing week we've had!
This week, we've been fortunate to welcome several vistors. A dentist taught us about the importance of brushing and caring for our teeth. We also had a visit from the Dogs Trust, who shared valuable tips on looking after dogs. But most importantly, Pudsey made a surprise appearance, hiding in a special spot!
On top of all these exciting activities, we've had fantastic Maths and Writing lessons. The children are eager and enthusatic, learning new words and number sentances every day.

Autumn term 2- Week 1
Welcome back to school, everyone!
It’s been fantastic seeing all of you so eager to dive into new and exciting learning this term. This week, we started exploring Art, focusing on Wassily Kandinsky and his unique use of shapes and colours. The children have done an incredible job with this! In Maths, they’ve been highly engaged, working hard on their addition tasks.

Autumn term 1- week 7
Our final week before half term has been a great one! Elder class has had an amazing first term, settling in beautifully. I’m so proud of how well they are transitioning from EYFS to Year 1 and 2!
In Science, we’ve been focusing on our new topic about humans, specifically how exercise keeps our bodies healthy and strengthens our hearts. The children have been able to see this in action during PE as well!
In Maths, we’re continuing to improve our skills, working on fact families and number sentences. It’s been wonderful to watch their progress through this series of lessons.
We also enjoyed a fun Halloween treat, with games and activities in the hall.

Week 6- Autumn term 6
Another fantastic week! The Elder class has been learning many new sounds through Read Write Inc, and I've noticed great progress. This has also carried over to our writing lessons, with improvements in letter formation and sound identification.
In Music, the children are learning to play our class song, 'Hands, Feet, and Heart,' on the glockenspiels. We’re making great strides, gaining a better understanding of the different sounds the glockenspiel can produce.
In PSHE, we've been focusing on healthy eating, learning to distinguish between healthy and unhealthy foods. The children have even created their own healthy and unhealthy plates.

Week 5- Autumn term 1
This week, Elder class have been learning new facts in Geography. They have learnt how to draw the equator on a map. We are now able to understand that we cannot see the equator, but we know that it goes across the world.
In science, we have been learning about reptiles and understanding that they have dry scales and that they don't like the cold! Which is why we do not have reptiles in the UK without a heat lamp.
Over the 5 weeks we have been improving our writing skills, showing an improvement on the formation of letters and putting our full stops and capital letters in the right places.

KS1 Autumn - Week 4
What another amazing week we have had in Elder class!
After finishing our history topic last week, we have started our new geography topic which is focusing on the continents and oceans around the world! We have learnt different songs to help us remember our new learning.
We have been building an understanding on the importance of healthy eating and why we should have a balanced diet. We have created our healthy eating plates and filled them with food that gives us lots of energy.
Following on from last week, we have been focusing on amphibians in science and how they live. We have also learnt that mammals, birds, fish and amphibians all have the same needs to survive but in different ways.
I am so proud of Elder and how they have settled in Elder class, Keep it up guys!
KS1 Autumn- Week 3
The children have had an amazing week this week! We have had lots of fun finding new facts about The Great Fire of London, and understanding how it affected London in 1666. Children have been working on their chronological order of events that occurred in London and have been super successful!
In Read Write Inc children have been improving their blending and recall of their green words, as well as using their knowledge in our Writing lessons. The children have been amazing at this!
Over the past few weeks we have learnt about mammals, birds and this week focusing on fish in our science lessons. Children have learnt fun facts about how fish breathe and the needs that they need to survive.
Overall children have had an amazing week and have had a positive attitude to learning! Keep it up Elder class!
KS1 - Autumn 1 - Week 2
We've had a fantastic week!
In history, we are enjoying learning all about the Great Fire of London. We worked as a team to help transport water between each other, role playing the Londoners back in 1666 trying to put out the fire! All of the children worked so well together but we soon realised how lucky we are to have the Fire Service!
In computing this week, we have learnt how to save an image from Google and edit our work. We used lots of interesting designs, colours and backgrounds to create a timeline of how computers have changed over time.
To end an amazing week, we were lucky enough to win the attendance award! I am so proud of the class and the children even got to come non-uniform as a treat!

KS1 Autumn- Week 1
We have had such a wonderful first week together. In Read Write Inc, we have been consolidating and learning our sounds. This will occur daily over the term, helping us improve our fluency. In writing, we have been practicing our transcription and formation of letters. We tried so hard with this!
In maths, we have been learning about ‘place value’, in which we are improving our counting ability and recognition of numbers. In science, our lessons have been about living things and their habitats. Children are now able to identify mammals, carnivores, herbivores and omnivores.
In history, we have been focusing on the Great Fire of London. The children have learnt some amazing facts. They know all about where the fire started and why the fire spread so quickly.
I can't wait to see what the rest of the term brings!
