We have started our new Geography topic of 'Sea Trade Routes' this week. The children have been using their atlas skills to locate different countires within Europe and the goods that are imported and exported to one country or another. We discussed the importance of these products within our daily lives. 

This week the children have really enjoyed researching pencil cases ready for their DT projects, examining the features of these extremely carefully. The children then conducted market research with their target audiences to identify the specific features children their own age would be attracted to. 

This week the children have been scientists investigating 'Whether plants need water to grow or not?' The children were able to fill their pots with soil, add the seeds and water them accordinly using the pipettes. We discussed how to make this a fair test and the conditions in which the cress plants would still be exposed to and those which we are taking away. I can't wait to see you take care and look after your plants in the next few week. I wonder what the results will be and if any of your predictions will be correct?

This week we have been completing our cityscapes inspired by the artist Alfred Wallis. The children have explored the creation of different colours, experimenting with tones and tints. They have used painting, printing and pencil texture techniques to create their own pieces of art work. Well done everyone!

The children enjoyed their science workshop this week, focussing on Climate Change. The children became mini actors and displayed different shapes and positions to act out the things we wouldn't want to find in different habitats in the world. The children learnt about the waste process and how this can easily be changed into methods of recycling to take care of the world that we live in. Great scientific work everyone!

In our writing sessions this week, we have been looking closely at the feelings of the characters in the film 'Mega City'. The children have explored different emtoions and the reasons why they might feel this way. We then developed these into show don't tells where the children were describing facial expressions and body language to see if we knew how they were feeling. Well done everyone!

This week has been national story telling week. The children have enjoyed telling and creating role play with stories that they know. The children particularly enjoyed the 'Dream up a World' storytelling project with Steven Camden. The children created their own doors where their created characters lived down a street. The children used story mapping to generate ideas before sharing their story with others. We have some amazing story tellers in Rowan class! Great work everyone!

This week the children have been exploring 'The Lighthouse' in our writing sessions. We have focussed on identifying nouns in a setting description and used prepositional phrases to describe where these are in relation to the other objects. The children then looked at building suspense and tension through the use of short sentences, increasing the pace within their writing. Great ideas everyone!

This week the children have been learning about hygiene in the kitchen and were able to demonstrate their hand washing skills. The children were making pizaas by kneeding the dough and thinking carefully about different toppings to make their pizzas as healthy as they could be. Well done to some of you for trying a new vegetable on your pizza!  

This week the children have been investgating different job opportunities in Grimsby and Lincoln, exploring the human and physical features of both locations. The children completed a low-stakes quiz and then used QR codes to find out about the different jobs, selecting their own preference and the reasons for this. 

This week the children have celebrated Diwali by creating a whole class Rangoli Peacock. The children thought carefully about their designs and colours used to make our peice of art look as colourful and bright as possible. Well done everyone!

This week we have been historians looking at the origins of Grimsby and how these influenced what scribed as the motto and drawn on the Grismby Seal. We have explored different iconic buildings of Grimsby that could be drawn on our own Seals. The children then were able to create a new, modernised Grimsby Seal thinking carefully about the motto and illustrations drawn. 

This week, as scientists, we have been investigating how permeable different types of soil are. The children set up their experiment using beakers, filter paper and a pipette for the water. We discussed how to make this a fair test and the conditions that neeed to stay the same. We timed how long it took for the water to filter through each soil. Our conclusions were that chalky soil is the most permeable. Well done everyone, a great scientific enquiry!

This week in Rowan class we have been developing our sequencing skills in reading. We have been practically ordering key words and events, numbering these in the order they appear in the extract. Everyone worked as a team and followed the steps to be successful.
