Summer 2 - Week 4

Transition week! Sycamore Class have loved the start of the week in their new class! We have focused on the idea of reduce, reuse, recycle. We reused coconut shells to create bird feeders, wrote an acrostic poem, used old magazines, newspapers and scrap paper to collage the letter ‘R’ to match our theme and we even made birthday cards for one another that we can give out throughout the year! I wonder what September will bring?

Summer 2 - Week 3

Sycamore Maths Group loved taking their learning outdoors today. Children had to find different objects to make repeating patterns, 2D and 3D shapes, symmetrical patterns and sorting and grouping! It was so lovely make it a memorable and exciting lesson for all!

Summer 2 - Week 2

The children loved their music session this week where they had a lesson on music appreciation! They listened to a variety of genres like pop, dance, classical and rock! The children decided on who would like the music, the tempo of the songs and even gave their own rating out of ten. We had some amazing dance moves and lots of laughter! We also loved having our lunch outside this week - what a treat in the sunshine!

Summer 2 - Week 1

In Geography this week, we became weather reporters! We loved spending time outside to see what the weather was like. We  had so much fun learning about weather symbols and what they mean. We also watched our local weather report to see what weather is forecast. We are now conducting an experiment with a rain gauge to see how much rain falls in the next week. This is placed near the gate, where we come into school! Please feel free to go and see how much rain was collected! 

Summer 1 - Week 6

The children loved their behaviour treat for this half term! We completed lots of crafts, games and even got play with bubbles outside! We chose to stay inside to have our treats though as the clouds took over but we still loved it! Here's hoping for some summer sunshine!

Summer 1 - Week 5

The children loved their PE session this week! They spoke about how much they use their bodies in everyday life from brushing their teeth to playing in the garden! They also practised their ball skills together and to top it off, the sun was shining! A lovely afternoon.

Summer 1 - Week 4

We have absoloutely loved our Music lessons this half term! We have been learning about tempo and dynamic. We have played the drums and the ukulele. I wonder what instrument will be next?

Summer 1 - Week 3

In Science, we have been learning about how plants grow. We learnt about all the different parts of a plant and we have even planted our own cress seeds! We have loved watching their progress each day. We are hoping to take them home next week too!

Summer 1 - Week 2

We have really enjoyed using the iPads this week to create different algorithms for our characters! We used a dinosaur this week and it was so much fun. Using coding is a new skill for us but we are improving every week.

Summer 1 - Week 1

This week in computing, we have used different symbols to direct a partner around the classroom. Each image represented one step. We learnt that our instructions needed to be clear and precise otherwise we didn’t complete the course correctly.

Spring 2 - Week 5

We absoloutely loved spending time with our grown ups making our very own animal shelter from recycled materials. We learnt all about how to join different materials together and we were able to create a sturdy structure for an animal to live in. We had such fun and now we can't wait to evaluate them and take them home to our gardens.

Spring 2 - Week 4

We learnt about shelters and what the meaning of ‘sturdy’ was. We tried to make a bridge out of paper and make sure that it could hold different objects. The children experimented with different shapes and sizes to see if they were successful. We also practised joining card in different ways to make a sturdy join. We glued paper to make a cylinder. We cut flanges to make a secure base for the cylinder and cut slots to join two pieces of card together. We loved it.

Spring 2 - Week 3

WORLD BOOK DAY! We absoloutely loved our Pirate themed day. We made treasure maps, designed and made our own pirate flags, wrote our own books and even had a treasure hunt. We loved it!

Spring 2 - Week 2

This week, we looked at a variety of images. We explored them carefully, identified who is at risk, what is causing the risk and what might happen to the animal. We shared facts with each other’s and also drew pictures of animals who we thought were most at risk. We all decided to make positive changes to our daily lives to help these animals!

Spring 2 - Week 1

This week, we looked at capital cities of the United Kingdom. We can now identify the countries and capital cities but also different places and objects that are associated with each place. We had such fun ordering and grouping and now know so much about each one. You should try and ask us!

Spring 1 - Week 5

This week we joined in with the NSPCC Number day! We had so much fun joining in lots of different maths activities whilst raising money for charity! We loved it as you can see from our smiles.

Spring 1 - Week 4

We loved exploring our new computing programmes and choosing an animal we loved to create a poster about! We found our own photos and inserted them onto a page where we could add text, colour and images! We will soon be creating our own online story using the skills we have learnt.

Spring 1 - Week 3

This week, we have completed our History topic of how holidays have changed over the last 100 years! We have learnt so much and are extremely lucky living right next door to the beach, where many people went on holiday. Look at our amazing work - we are so proud of ourselves.

Spring 1 - Week 1 and 2

This week, we have started a new Science topic. We are exploring our body parts and the five senses. We started off our learning with an exciting activity where we drew around eachother and labelled the different parts of the body. We also discussed what each part of the body was used for and how they help us in our everyday lives!

Autumn 2 - Week 6

This week, we designed our very own fruit salad. We used the different tools to help prepare apples, oranges, bananas and kiwis. We used peelers, graters and knives too. We really enjoyed eating them... I think that was our favourite part!

Autumn 2 - Week 5

We've had a fantastic time this week learning how to make a pizza with Chartwells. We practised creating a pizza base and we added some of our favourite toppings. We had to cook the pizza at home. It tasted delicious - yum, yum!!!

Autumn 2 - Week 4

This week, we have been looking at maps and choosing different routes to take. We looked at our local area and the local landmarks. Some of us even made our own maps!

Autumn 2 - Week 3

In Science this week, we were looking at the properties of material. We sorted out different objects into the correct categories and tried to describe them using words like soft, hard, transparent, flexible and absorbant. 

Autumn 2 - Week 2 

This week in RE we celebrated the Hindu festival of lights 'Diwali' by creating bright and colourful Rangoli patterns. Diwali celebrates the victory of light over darkness and good over evil. Rangoli patterns are placed at the entrances of homes, offices and other places to warn off evil. 

Autumn 2 - Week 1

The Image Theatre Company came into school to deliver a production of 'The Wind in the Willows'. The children learnt 5 songs with actions to join in with the performance and some children got to perform with the actors. Can you hear the Wind in the Willows? What a fantastic experience!!!

Autumn 1 - Week 6

This week, we looked at comparing past, present and future transport designs. We created our own futuristic design and spoke about how they are different and a more improved version of transport we have today. We loved it!

Autumn 1 - Week 5

This week, we were looking making a digital book! We are basing our story on 'The Three Little Pigs' and the children had to learn how to add text, images and use a keyboard! We loved it and made some amazing creations. 

Autumn 1 - Week 4

Mindful morning! We love to take some time out of our day to be mindful and focus on the things we love! This week, we looked at positive messages and chose one that we thought about ourselves. Looking after our wellbeing is very important!

Autumn 1 - Week 3

This week we looked at the history of steam trains and how they have changed over time! We also learnt a new song in music and loved looking at different genres of music!

Autumn 1 - Week 2

This week, we have been looking at transport in History. We explored all the way back to the Viking's this week and made our very own Long boats! We had such fun and designed our own shields but kept the traditional sail. 

Autumn 1 - Week 1

We have settled into Sycamore life, loved getting to know each other this week and finding out lots about our friends! We even went on a treasure hunt around school as part of our science topic to look for signs on summer.
