Houses
As our Bursar family continues to grow in size, we are keen to keep the small-school feel that Bursar has always had. We believe that a sense of family and community is at the heart of everything that we do and through the implementation of 'Houses' we are able to achieve this.
When children start KS1, they are put into a House Team. Our Houses are named after significant 'Rivers of the World'. The rivers include those longest in each continent and those personal to us in Great Britain. Our House Teams are: Nile (Africa), Yangtze (Asia), Murray (Australia), Volga (Europe), Mississippi (North America), Amazon (South America), Severn (Great Britain), Thames (London) and Humber (local). Each year, children are moved into a new House Team. This allows the knowledge of 'Rivers of the World' to be built on, year on year.
Children gather together in their House Teams for various events throughout the year, where they work together collaboratively to complete tasks. Children work together in their House Teams to try and earn the most amount of House Points in order to win the end of year, House celebrations.
Our House Captains
Each House River has a House Captain. These are Year 6 children, chosen by adults at Bursar, who have shown exceptional behaviour and followed the Bursar Values throughout their primary years.
House Captains have a responsibility to discuss House events and celebrations with their House Leader, ensuring children are supported during House events, giving feedback via pupil voice and encouraging those children in their House to earn House Points.
Our 2025-26 House Captains are:
Nile (Africa) -
Yangtze (Asia)-
Murray (Australia) -
Volga (Europe) -
Mississippi (North America) -
Amazon (South America) -
Severn (Great Britain) -
Thames (London) -
Humber (local) -
We earn house points for our House when we:
- are asked to share exceptional work with other adults, not just our teacher.
- are recognised for following our Bursar Values.
- are recognised for our behaviour by adults around school.
- are helpful towards other adults around the school.
- show kindness towards other children.
- show exceptional behaviour during out of school events and visits.
- take part in house events e.g. Christmas craft, Sports Day.
